Statement

JJKN enforces a zero-tolerance policy towards plagiarism. The following policy outlines the specific actions (penalties) taken when plagiarism is identified in a submitted article.

Definition:
Plagiarism is defined as "the use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's original work."

Policy:
Submitted papers must be original, unpublished, and not under review elsewhere. Any verbatim material from another source must be clearly distinguished from the original text by:

  1. Indentation

  2. Quotation marks

  3. Proper citation of the source

Any text that exceeds fair use standards (defined here as more than two or three sentences or the equivalent) or any reproduced graphic material must be used with permission from the copyright holder and, if possible, the original author(s). Proper citation of the original publication is also required.

All submitted papers will undergo a similarity check using Turnitin.

If plagiarism is detected, the Principal Editor responsible for the paper will determine the appropriate measures by the following guidelines:

Similarity Level

JJKN uses Turnitin to evaluate the similarity index. The editorial board then makes a decision based on the report (which will be shared with the author). The actions are as follows:

  1. Similarity Index above 40%
Rejected. Due to poor citation and/or poor paraphrasing. No resubmission allowed.

  2. Similarity Index 20–40%
Returned to author for revision. The author must add correct citations and improve paraphrasing, even when citations are already provided.

  3. Similarity Index less than 20%
Accepted, or minor citation improvements may be required. All cited material must be properly referenced.

For cases 2 and 3, Authors must revise the manuscript carefully, add necessary citations, improve paraphrasing, and resubmit the manuscript with a new Turnitin report showing less than 10% similarity and no plagiarism.

Additional Information

  1. Responsibility for Content:
Authors are fully responsible for the content of their submissions. By submitting, they confirm the originality of the work and agree to this plagiarism policy.

  2. Repeat Offenses:
If a second serious plagiarism offense is detected by the same author(s), the editorial board will decide on appropriate sanctions, which may include a permanent ban on future submissions.

  3. Self-Plagiarism Policy:
This policy also applies to material reused from the author's own previous publications. Reused content (text or figures) must be clearly identified, and the original publication must be cited.

  4. Review or Tutorial Articles:
In review or tutorial-style articles, where previously published material is used more extensively, authors must:

    • Identify the original source of the reused material

    • Clearly distinguish it from new content

    • Obtain permission from the copyright holder and, if applicable, the original author(s)

  5. Simultaneous Submissions:
If a manuscript submitted to JJKN significantly overlaps with a manuscript submitted to another journal (either at the same time or subsequently), and this overlap is discovered, the editor of the other journal will be notified. The case will be treated as serious plagiarism.

    • Significant overlap: Use of identical or nearly identical figures and text in ≥50% of the manuscript

    • Intermediate self-plagiarism: Overlap of 10–50%

    • Minor self-plagiarism: Limited to the methods section

  6. Clarifying New Results:
If authors reuse content to help explain new findings, they must:

    • Indicate the previously published content

    • Explain the differences from the current submission

    • Obtain permission for republication

  7. Conference Proceedings:
If the manuscript was previously published in conference proceedings (either identically or in expanded form), authors must:

    • Provide the name and date of the conference

    • Obtain republication permission from the copyright holder

    • The editor reserves the right to reject such papers

  8. Use of Unpublished Presentations:
Authors are allowed to use material from unpublished presentations, including visuals, in a subsequent journal article.

  9. Translated Articles:
If the manuscript is a translation of an article published in another language, authors must:

    • Identify the original publication (title, journal, and date)

    • Obtain copyright permission for republication
